Greetings, and welcome to a revamped GPM newsletter. We have updated the format of The Monitor to better facilitate its broad distribution and improve readability. Rather than containing prescribed sections in each issue, the newsletter format will change from issue to issue, depending on what is "hot" at the time. This new format will ensure that the newsletter remains a manageable size for both the readers and the writers. Although The GPM Monitor is still available through the Internet on the GPM Project homepage, regular subscribers can now access articles directly from announcements received via email. In addition, we have resumed a quarterly publication schedule to keep the subject matter topical.

But it is not only the newsletter that has been revamped since our last publication over a year ago. Due to budgetary challenges, the Project has altered the development approach for the GPM Core Spacecraft (click here to read an article detailing these changes).

In addition, there have been some GPM project staffing changes since last fall. When this newsletter was last published, Jim Adams was still the GPM Project Formulation Manager. Let me start out the list of personnel changes by extending my greeting from the vantage point of the Project Formulation Manager's chair. I formerly served as the GPM Core Spacecraft Observatory Manager for Jim, who has since departed to become the Deputy Project Manager for the STEREO mission.

Other key GPM personnel changes include the addition of Matt Schwaller as the Ground Validation Manager, Steve Horowitz as the Core Spacecraft Observatory Manger, Mark Fontaine as the Deputy Project Manager for Resources, Debbie O'Neil as the Core Spacecraft Systems Engineer, and Kitty Hanlon as the project secretary. These are but a few of the personnel changes taking place on the project at this time. In the next issue of the newsletter we will provide an organization chart that will reflect our new team in toto.

If you would like to become an email subscriber to The GPM Monitor , or have suggestions on how we can improve this newsletter, please contact me.
