Primary objectives of the workshop were to establish the “needs
of GV” from the algorithm developer’s point of view
and to review GV programs and experiences from the Tropical Rainfall
Measuring Mission (TRMM). Several participants reported on the status
of GV efforts underway in their respective nations.
The three-day conference consisted of numerous presentation sessions,
including discussions on algorithm and application needs from the
GV program; GV network system integration; and the accumulation
of experience from TRMM, northern, subtropical, and tropical GV
sites. On Wednesday, attendees participated in one of three concurrent
working group sessions: Data Integration: Operational Radar Measurement,
the Strategy of Data Products, or Closing the Loop Between Algorithm
Development and GV Science.
The workshop was a great success, enabling an abundance of information
to be shared among the GPM GV community members. Although formal
minutes or notes from this workshop will not be generated, NASA’s
GPM Project intends to make the materials from each presentation
available via the GPM website by the end of November. Interested
parties will be able to view the workshop agenda and click on the
title of the presentations they wish to view or download.
