I am excited to be joining the GPM team. GPM is a great project with an important science objective and innovative implementation approach.

I spent the last five years on the Space Technology 5 (ST5) project, first as Mission Systems Engineer, then as Deputy Project Manager. ST5 is a constellation of three 25-kg micro-satellites that demonstrate flight hardware and ground system technologies for application to future science missions. We are also using ST5 to demonstrate the benefits of a group of small, low-cost spacecraft that take measurements at the same time in different locations. The spacecraft, as well as the launch vehicle support structure and deployment mechanisms, were built, tested, and operated in-house at Goddard. ST5 was a great experience for me. I started working on the project at the Preliminary Design Review, and participated in the critical design phase, re-planning the mission for a new launch vehicle and orbit, and building, integrating, and testing the flight hardware, launch and operations. We are currently approximately 60 days through our 90-day mission, and the project has been very successful.

GPM is a return to the world of Earth Science for me. I worked on the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) project for six years in various system engineering roles, finishing up as System Manager. ESDIS gave me experience in working external interfaces with the Earth Observing System (EOS) flight projects, science teams, and user community that will be useful background for my work on GPM.

Prior to ESDIS, I was System Engineer for the Network Control Center (part of the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System).

I hold a B.S. in Computer Science and Physics from the College of William and Mary, and M.S. degrees in Technical Management and Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University. I am also a graduate of Code 400’s Project Management Development Emprise (PMDE) program.

My hobbies are music and photography.
